Backspace Key -

In some Unix-like environments, terminal emulators, or SSH sessions, pressing the backspace key might incorrectly output ^H or ^? instead of performing a deletion. This happens because of a mismatch between the control characters expected by the host server and those sent by the terminal.

On Windows systems, Backspace erases to the left, while Delete erases to the right. Holding down the Control (Windows) or Option (Mac) key while pressing backspace deletes the entire preceding word at once instead of individual letters.
