Before the show, the Beatles held a press conference and used the Penguins' locker room as a dressing area, which they later described as the nicest they encountered on the entire U.S. tour.

The band arrived at Greater Pittsburgh Airport at 4:36 PM in a Lockheed Electra. They were met by approximately and a heavy security presence, including 120 police officers and 15 on horseback. Thousands more lined Parkway West and gathered outside the arena just to catch a glimpse of their motorcade.
