Gurashi! | Gakkou

The delusional veil flickered for a split second. To Yuki, the door was decorated with streamers. To the others, it was a barricade under siege.

“One dance,” Kurumi muttered, stepping into the rhythm. “Then we clear the stairs.” Gakkou Gurashi!

Kurumi exchanged a heavy look with Yuuri. Below the rooftop railing, the "view" was a sea of gray, shambling figures pressing against the school gates. The groans of the undead drifted up like white noise, muffled only by the wind. The delusional veil flickered for a split second

Yuuri handed a cracker to Yuki, her hand trembling slightly. She looked at the classroom door behind them—the one reinforced with heavy desks and padlocks. The supplies were running low. The water filter was acting up. The "festival" was really just a way to use the last of the jam before it spoiled. Suddenly, a loud thump echoed from the stairwell. “One dance,” Kurumi muttered, stepping into the rhythm

Kurumi looked at the door, then at Yuki’s desperate, beaming face. She let out a jagged breath and lowered her shovel. For five minutes, they wouldn’t be survivors. They wouldn’t be prey.

“The festival is going to be perfect!” Yuki chirped, pointing to a string of handmade paper cranes fluttering in the breeze. “We have snacks, music, and the best view in the city.”

“See?” Yuki laughed, grabbing Kurumi’s hand and pulling her into a clumsy dance. “You can’t have a festival without dancing!”
