: The cello was chosen as the lead instrument to give the theme a "darker" sound. The producers specifically asked Djawadi to avoid flutes and solo vocals, which they felt were overused in fantasy.

The (also known as the "Main Titles") was composed by Ramin Djawadi in 2011. It is widely considered one of the most recognizable television soundtracks of the 21st century. Djawadi was inspired to write the theme after viewing an early rendering of the computer-generated title sequence, which depicts a mechanical map of Westeros. Composer & Inspiration

: Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss wanted the theme to reflect the variety of locations and characters, describing it as a "journey" across the fictional world.

: Djawadi famously came up with the melody while driving back from the visual effects house after seeing the preliminary title sequence. Musical Characteristics
