Written by Billy Steinberg and Josh Alexander, the track was pitched to Gaga during her Born This Way recording sessions. Although she recorded a demo and added some original lyrics, it was ultimately omitted from the album.

The title is a direct reference to a famous 1952 quote by Marilyn Monroe. When asked what she wore to bed for her nude calendar photos, Monroe replied, "I had the radio on" .

A full demo of the ARTPOP -era version leaked, which allegedly led Gaga to shelve the song again.
