Thony tucked the vial into her apron, the cold glass a reminder of the life she was fighting for. She didn't look back as she pushed her cart into the elevator. The elevator chimed. The doors opened. Outside, Agent Garrett Miller was leaning against his car, checking his watch. Thony adjusted her mask, gripped the handle of her cart, and walked straight toward the fire.

Thony looked at the vial, then at the man who was both her captor and her only hope. "I’ll clear the trail. But if Garrett follows me, I can't promise I'll lead him away from you."

"Lead him wherever you want," Arman whispered, handing her the medicine. "Just make sure you’re back by dawn. Luca needs his mother, and I need my hands clean."
