After years of hunting psychopathic killers in Los Angeles, FBI agent (James Spader) relocates to Chicago, suffering from guilt and migraines following a failed attempt to save a victim. However, his nemesis, the serial killer David Allen Griffin (Keanu Reeves), follows him to the new city, bored of his Los Angeles successor and eager to continue their "relationship". Griffin torments Campbell by sending him photographs of his intended victims 24 hours before they are murdered, challenging the agent to save them before a 9:00 PM deadline.
