(Japanese: Taketori Monogatari ) is a 1987 Japanese adventure-fantasy film directed by Kon Ichikawa that blends the traditional 10th-century Japanese legend, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter , with science fiction elements. The film follows a peasant couple, played by legendary actors Toshiro Mifune and Ayako Wakao , who discover a mysterious baby inside a glowing golden pod in a bamboo forest.
